Job summary

Amey is seeking a permanent General Building Engineer for the Ministry of Justice account at HMP Cardiff, Knox Rd, Cardiff CF24 0UG. This on-site role focuses on maintaining safety, compliance, and reliability across the prison estate.

You will manage preventive and reactive tasks, including security systems, fire safety equipment, and water risk assessments, with a 39-hour week and a 15% shift allowance.

Responsibilities

• Ensuring availability of critical parts for statutory tasks and managing remedial tasks in the CAFM system.
• Performing general and semi-skilled maintenance activities, including security systems like CCTV and alarms.
• Conducting monthly checks and tests of fire extinguisher equipment, fire hydrants, and hoses.
• Completing quarterly RCD testing and inspect Misting Units.
• Maintaining fire doors and performing flushing and tap temperature tests as per water risk assessments.
• Undertaking monthly and annual emergency lighting checks.
• Checking and testing smoke vents as required.
• Carrying out any other duties as required.

We are excited to offer a fantastic opportunity for a permanent General Building Engineer to join our Ministry of Justice (MoJ) account in HMP Cardiff, Knox Rd, Cardiff CF24 0UG

This role is based on-site.

The standard hours of work are 39 Hours (8am-5pm with 1 hour lunch break, 1 in 3 weekend working 8am-4pm and 15% shift allowance)

General Building Engineer plays an important part in ensuring the planned and reactive maintenance work within the prisons is carried out in a safe, compliant and timely manner.
