Job summary

Hampshire and Isle of Wight Fire and Rescue Service is seeking an on-call firefighter to respond to emergencies and protect the local community. You will balance other life commitments with paid on-call duties, attend community events, and complete thorough training to stay prepared.

The role requires rapid response to alerts, strong physical fitness, and eligibility to work within 5 minutes of the Ryde Fire Station. A DBS check is part of the vetting process.

Qualifications

• Comprehensive training programme provided for new on-call firefighters.
• Must be able to reach the fire station quickly and safely after being alerted to an incident.
• Physical fitness is essential for the role.
• Eligibility requires living and/or working within 5 minutes of the Fire Station.

Responsibilities

• Respond to a range of emergencies and provide frontline firefighting support.
• Engage with the community and attend community events as required.
• Participate in training programmes to maintain readiness.
• Handle a variety of incidents from fires to road accidents and other emergencies.
