Job description

About this role:

This is an essential front-facing role managing daily school operations, family communications, and administrative systems.

Barton Park Primary School is seeking an organised, calm, and proactive Office Administrator to join our dedicated team in our modern, purpose-built facility on a flexible 3-day term-time basis (including Fridays and INSET days).

In this varied, front-facing role, you will act as the primary point of contact for our parent community while delivering a professional administrative service that encompasses tasks such as monitoring pupil attendance, coordinating school trips, managing nursery and wrap-around care logistics, and arranging first aid care for pupils and staff. Proven experience in a busy public-facing office environment is essential, alongside a positive, respectful approach that brings order and reassurance to our emerging school community, allowing teachers and leadership to focus on pupil progress.

In return for your commitment to helping our school thrive, we offer dedicated support for your ongoing professional development— with future opportunities to gain hands‑on experience in finance, premises management, payroll, and HR for those looking to progress in their career.

What skills / experience are required?

  • Good team player with strong interpersonal skills

  • Good numeracy and literacy skills (GCSE grade C/5 minimum or equivalent)

  • Effective use of ICT packages

  • Use of relevant equipment/resources eg photocopiers

  • Good keyboard and computer skills

  • Experience of working in a school is an advantage but experience of working in a busy office is essential.

What we can offer

Our school is new and growing. As our school grows, opportunities and challenges for the right people arise each year. We are looking for an individual who is excited about being part of our developing community and can bring enthusiasm and skills that will help shape our school now and in the future.

Education has the power to change lives, communities and society for the better. At RLT we believe that we can achieve more for our pupils, trainees, staff and communities by working together rather than alone. Schools in RLT are united by a common belief in the benefits of working together, and by our commitment to shared principles.

OUR VISION is for our schools and SCITT to improve rapidly, continuously and sustainably: to be better faster together.

OUR 'WHY?' is that children and young people 'only get one go' in school and therefore as part of RLT we aim to ensure the best possible 'go' for our pupils.

OUR 'HOW?' is through the highest support and challenge for our schools and each other, underpinned by our principles.

Our employees benefit from a wide variety of support including extensive continuing professional learning and development opportunities, wellbeing and staff networks and access to Defined Benefit Pension Schemes (TPS and LGPS) for all staff. For more information on what it is like to work for the Trust, and the benefits you could access, please see our "Working in RLT" guide.

This role includes regulated activity relevant to children.

The school reserves the right to consider and interview candidates ahead of the closing date if appropriate. An offer may be made to an exceptional candidate in this instance.

The River Learning Trust and Barton Park Primary School are committed to safeguarding and promoting the welfare of all children and preventing extremism. The Trust is required to conduct a variety of checks and online searches about you as part of their recruitment process in accordance with Keeping Children Safe in Education guidance. It is an offence to apply for certain roles within schools if you are barred from engaging in regulated activity relevant to children. The River Learning Trust is an equal opportunities employer committed to creating a safe, inclusive environment for all staff, free from discrimination and harassment.

This post is exempt from the Rehabilitation of Offenders Act 1974 and the amendments to the Exceptions Order 1975, 2013 and 2020.
