Ocean Freight Operator

Location: Manchester

Salary: Up to £35,000 DOE

The Opportunity

We are recruiting for an experienced Ocean Freight Operator to join a well-established and growing freight forwarding business in Manchester.

This is an excellent opportunity to join a privately owned logistics provider with a strong reputation for customer service, operational quality and developing its people. Due to continued growth, they are looking to strengthen their Manchester operation with an experienced ocean freight professional who can confidently manage shipments from start to finish.

You will take ownership of a varied portfolio of ocean import, export and cross-trade shipments, working closely with customers, shipping lines, overseas agents and internal teams to ensure freight moves efficiently, compliantly and on schedule.

The Role

• Managing ocean import, export and cross-trade shipments from start to finish
• Handling both FCL and LCL movements
• Booking freight with shipping lines and overseas partners
• Preparing and checking shipping documentation
• Completing customs clearances where required
• Liaising with customers, shipping lines, hauliers and overseas agents
• Providing quotations and following up on commercial opportunities
• Tracking shipments and providing proactive customer updates
• Completing costing, invoicing and maintaining accurate shipment records
• Building strong customer relationships and identifying opportunities for account growth
• Resolving operational issues and maintaining a high level of customer service

Requirements

• Previous end-to-end Ocean Freight forwarding experience
• Good knowledge of both import and export operations
• Experience handling FCL and LCL shipments
• Customs clearance knowledge, with CDS experience advantageous
• Strong customer service and communication skills
• Excellent organisation and attention to detail
• The ability to manage multiple shipments within a fast-paced environment
• Experience using CargoWise would be beneficial
