Job description

Ocean Export Operator – Birmingham – Permanent Role – A minimum of 2 years’ experience in freight forwarding including working for an independent company.

Salary: £28,000 to £35,000 per annum (depending on experience).

Will be joining the petrochemicals team, so will need to have experience with hazardous goods to be considered for this role.

Shift:

  1. Monday to Friday
  2. 08:30-17:00
  3. 1 hour for lunch

Are you passionate about working as an Ocean Export Operator? Silver Arrow is now recruiting for this role to work for our client based in the Birmingham area on a permanent basis.

Your Role:

  1. Develop and build relationships to ensure a high level of customer service is provided to customers.
  2. Ensure freight is moved on time with all the necessary documentation.
  3. Arrange haulage with shipping line.
  4. Ensure all freight is invoiced and checked prior to dispatch.
  5. Ensure all relevant documents are on hand as required.
  6. Ensure requests and queries are resolved and actioned quickly and efficiently.
  7. Communicate with overseas agents, customers, and suppliers in a clear, precise manner.
  8. Use customer ERP and SAP systems as and when required.
  9. Take ownership of your own training and development to continuously improve and develop.

What we need from you:

  1. Must have experience with hazardous goods.
  2. Good verbal and written communication to provide a professional image to customers and suppliers.
  3. The capacity to work in a high-pressure environment whilst remaining calm.
  4. The ability to instruct a global network of agents, suppliers, shipping lines, and hauliers.
  5. The skill to prioritize a large number of tasks to ensure accuracy and deliver results with great attention to detail and a high sense of urgency.
  6. A positive attitude and good problem-solving skills.
  7. Be commercially aware and able to grow repeat business and develop new opportunities.
  8. The drive to succeed and make a contribution to the business.

General Skills:

  1. Industry and operational knowledge of Ocean freight.
  2. An understanding of why attention to detail matters and the commercial impact this has.
  3. Able to cope and accustomed to working under pressure to meet fixed deadlines.
  4. Strong numerical and commercial skills.
  5. Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  6. Excellent attention to detail.
  7. Excellent usage of computer/operating system (Microsoft Windows) along with other office applications (Microsoft Office) (Cargowise – preferable).
  8. Proactive, team worker with excellent time management and organization skills.
  9. Enthusiastic, flexible, and self-motivated.
