Job summary

South Warwickshire University NHS Foundation Trust is seeking an Advanced Practitioner in Ultrasound to perform obstetric, gynaecological and abdominal scans, reporting independently and teaching trainee sonographers. The role involves cross-site collaboration, quality control, and contributing to clinical governance.

The post requires a caseload managed with extended days and weekend sessions, and registration with HCPC, NMC or the voluntary sonographers register.

Qualifications

• Independently report and prioritise workload.
• Experience with a broad range of ultrasound equipment and safe controls.
• Excellent verbal and written communication, including sensitive situations.

Responsibilities

• Perform ultrasound examinations unsupervised across obstetric, gynaecological and abdominal work.
• Independently report examinations with written follow-up recommendations.
• Communicate scan findings to patients, relatives and clinicians.
• Lead teaching and supervision of trainee sonographers (about six sessions a week).
• Train medical staff and students in radiography and assisting practitioners.
• Cover colleagues on short notice and participate in urgent referrals.
• Manage daily schedule to meet trust timeframes and organise referrals.
• Assist with setting up procedures and protocols.
• Contribute to quality control of ultrasound equipment and report faults.
• Maintain CPD folder, attend MDT meetings and participate in appraisals.
• Participate in clinical audits and governance, health and safety policies.
• Record patient and clinical details accurately on radiology systems and liaise with booking clerk.
