Job summary

Met Office in Exeter is advertising a 12-month Year in Industry Industrial Placement as a Data Engineer, starting July 2027. The placement is full-time (37 hours per week) with hybrid working options and a clear path to graduate opportunities.

You will work within the Machine Learning Operations team on data engineering tasks, collaborating with software, DevOps, and BI specialists to deliver real-world services.

Qualifications

• Pursuing a degree with a placement year for Computer Science, Data Science, Data Engineering, or related field.
• Experience with Python/Java/Scala/R.
• Interest in weather/climate science and data engineering fundamentals.

Responsibilities

• Work on data engineering tasks within the ML Operations team.
• Collaborate across Software, DevOps, Data Engineers, Product and Delivery teams.
• Deliver stories in a multidisciplinary team to support Met Office projects.
