Job summary

Teaching Personnel is seeking a Numeracy Intervention Tutor to support Sunderland secondary schools. The role focuses on students falling behind in Maths, delivering 1:1 and small-group sessions to close gaps and rebuild confidence for KS4 outcomes.

Candidates with a strong Maths background, a degree, or numeracy-focused qualifications are encouraged to apply. DBS Update Service is preferred. Long-term, ASAP start with opportunities for permanent roles.

Qualifications

• Strong maths background with a degree, teaching experience, or numeracy-focused qualification.
• Experience delivering interventions or tutoring in a school setting is desirable.
• DBS Update Service (enhanced) is preferred.

Responsibilities

• Deliver structured numeracy interventions on 1:1 and small group basis.
• Identify gaps in understanding and adjust sessions accordingly.
• Track progress and feedback to class teachers.
• Support KS3–KS4 students below age-related expectations.
• Liaise with Maths department and SENCO for joined-up approach.
• Uphold safeguarding responsibilities at all times.

Teaching Personnel is recruiting a Numeracy Intervention Tutor for secondary schools across Sunderland, with positions available immediately. This is a targeted support role focused specifically on students who are falling behind in Maths — working with them on a 1:1 and small group basis to close gaps, rebuild confidence, and give them a better chance of achieving meaningful outcomes at KS4.

It is a role that suits someone with a strong Maths background who enjoys the close, focused nature of intervention work over whole-class teaching. Whether you're a Maths graduate, an experienced TA with a numeracy specialism, or a teacher looking for something different, this is worth considering.

What the role involves:

• Delivering structured numeracy interventions on a 1:1 and small group basis
• Identifying gaps in student understanding and adapting sessions accordingly
• Tracking and monitoring student progress and feeding back to class teachers
• Supporting students across KS3 and KS4 who are working below age-related expectations
• Liaising with the Maths department and SENCO to ensure a joined-up approach
• Upholding safeguarding responsibilities at all times

What We're looking for:

• A strong Maths background — a degree, teaching experience, or a numeracy-focused support qualification
