Job summary

Pioneer Selection Ltd in Birmingham is seeking an Electrical Maintenance Engineer to maintain a highly automated distribution facility. The role focuses on planned preventative maintenance, fault finding and breakdown repairs on a range of automated equipment, with opportunities to develop technical skills and progress into senior roles.

You will work within a small engineering team, taking ownership of planned maintenance activities, improving equipment reliability and uptime while supporting

Qualifications

  • Electrical maintenance experience within an industrial environment.
  • Evidence of planned preventive maintenance, reactive maintenance and breakdown repairs.
  • Strong fault-finding and understanding of three-phase systems and control circuits.
  • Ability to work on automated equipment and support junior engineers when required.

Responsibilities

  • Carry out planned preventive maintenance on automated equipment to maximise uptime.
  • Perform fault finding and breakdown repairs on a range of automated systems.
  • Take ownership of planned maintenance activities and drive reliability improvements.
  • Support junior engineers and collaborate with the engineering team across shifts.

ELECTRICAL MAINTENANCE ENGINEER

Job Title: Electrical Maintenance Engineer

Location: Birmingham

Salary: £46,500 - £50,000

Shift: Permanent Nights | Monday - Thursday 10:00pm - 6:00am, Friday 7:00pm - 3:00am or Monday- Thursday 20:00 PM - 06:00 AM

Job Role of the Electrical Maintenance Engineer

A fantastic opportunity has become available for an Electrical Maintenance Engineer to join a highly automated distribution facility operating some of the latest material handling technology. This is an excellent opportunity for an engineer looking to join a business that invests heavily in its people, offering excellent technical development and genuine opportunities to progress into senior engineering or management positions.

Working as part of a small engineering team, you will be responsible for ensuring the reliability and performance of a wide range of automated equipment through planned preventative maintenance, fault finding and breakdown repairs. The role is predominantly PPM focused, giving engineers the opportunity to proactively improve equipment reliability while developing their technical skills on bespoke automated systems.

You'll work alongside the engineering team at the start of each shift before taking ownership of planned maintenance activities independently, helping to maximise equipment uptime and operational efficiency.

Sector - Automated Distribution & Maintenance

Non‑Negotiable Requirements of the Electrical Maintenance Engineer
  • Electrical maintenance experience within an industrial environment.
  • NVQ Level 3 (or equivalent) in Engineering.
  • Experience carrying out planned preventive maintenance, reactive maintenance and breakdown repairs.
  • Comfortable working permanent night shifts.
Requirements for the Electrical Maintenance Engineer
  • Strong electrical fault-finding skills.
  • Good understanding of three-phase systems, motors, sensors and control circuits.
  • Mechanical maintenance experience including bearings, belts, motors and pneumatics.
  • Experience using CMMS maintenance systems.
  • Ability to work safely at height.
  • Comfortable working independently while supporting junior engineers when required.
Desirable Requirements for the Electrical Maintenance Engineer
  • Experience working on automated handling or conveyor systems.
  • PLC fault‑finding experience.
  • Experience with conveyors, compressors, labelling systems, automated picking equipment or similar automated machinery.
  • Experience working within a fast‑paced maintenance environment.
