Job summary

Matchtech is recruiting an experienced HSE Officer for a major refinery shutdown at Fawley Refinery, Southampton (SO45 1TX). The role focuses on overseeing night shift furnace mechanical works and high-risk maintenance activities while ensuring compliance with refinery safety regulations.

The successful candidate will carry out risk assessments, safety audits, toolbox talks and safety briefings, and report incidents and observations. A NEBOSH or equivalent qualification is required.

Qualifications

• Proven HSE, Safety Officer, Safety Advisor experience within refinery, petrochemical, oil & gas or heavy industrial environments.
• Strong knowledge of mechanical maintenance and refinery safety standards and ideally knowledge of furnace works.
• NEBOSH or equivalent qualification is required.

Responsibilities

• Monitor night shift mechanical activities on furnaces, ensuring compliance with safety regulations and hot-work permits.
• Conduct risk assessments, toolbox talks and safety briefings.
• Monitor confined space entry, hot work and lifting operations.
• Identify hazards and intervene in unsafe acts and implement corrective actions on-site.
• Carry out safety inspections, PPE audits and compliance checks.
• Report incidents, near misses and safety observations.
