Job summary

FedEx is seeking a fully skilled Heavy Goods Vehicle Maintenance Technician at the Vehicle Maintenance Unit in Preston. You will service and maintain the fleet to keep it safe, legal and reliable, working a 40-hour week on a night shift (22:00–06:30).

Base pay is £21.70/hour with additional premiums for evening and night hours. This role requires LGV C&E licensing, City & Guilds parts 1 & 2, welding and electrical troubleshooting experience, and a valid driving licence.

Qualifications

• Hold LGV C&E licence or equivalent for commercial vehicle operations.
• City & Guilds parts 1 & 2 or equivalent in CV repairs required.
• Knowledge of automotive equipment and testing/troubleshooting.
• Able to lift and manoeuvre Heavy Vehicle components.
• Experience welding and basic DC electrical troubleshooting.

Responsibilities

• Complete service and inspection records as required by procedure.
• Prepare vehicles/trailers for annual MOT testing to achieve 1st time pass.
• Perform ad-hoc vehicle repairs and rectify defects.
• Ensure safe, correct use of tools and equipment; maintain housekeeping.
• Document defects and paperwork to meet legal requirements.
• Carry out other duties as reasonably requested by management.
