Job summary

Northern is seeking an on-site Engineering role focused on maintaining trains and electrical systems across the North. You will diagnose faults, perform repairs and contribute to safe, reliable service with a hands-on, problem-solving approach.

Responsibilities include maintenance, diagnostics, and mentoring apprentices while ensuring depot safety standards and high performance across the fleet.

Qualifications

• Must have NVQ Level 3 in Engineering or equivalent.
• Electrical bias with maintenance, fault finding and repairs experience.
• Confident using diagnostic software to identify faults.

Responsibilities

• Carry out maintenance, servicing and repairs on traction and rolling stock, focusing on electrical systems.
• Diagnose faults using diagnostic software and perform root cause analysis.
• Complete planned and reactive maintenance safely and efficiently.
• Support train preparation activities to ensure units are ready for service.
• Coordinate maintenance activities with colleagues and mentor apprentices.
• Follow safety procedures and depot standards at all times.
