Job summary

Northern Trains Limited is hiring a Multiskilled Maintenance Engineer for night shifts to service and repair rolling stock with an electrical bias. You will diagnose faults, perform preventative maintenance and support depot operations, ensuring safety and high performance.

You will mentor apprentices, work with a skilled team, and contribute to reliability improvements while adhering to RSSB safety standards and procedures.

Qualifications

• NVQ Level 3 in Engineering or equivalent.
• Electrical bias with maintenance, fault finding and repairs.
• Experience using diagnostic software to identify faults.
• Ability to work independently and in a team.
• Strong communication and collaboration.
• Safety and continuous improvement mindset.
• Willingness to mentor apprentices.

Responsibilities

• Carry out maintenance, servicing and repairs on traction and rolling stock, focusing on electrical systems.
• Diagnose faults using diagnostic software and perform root-cause analysis.
• Complete planned and reactive maintenance safely and efficiently.
• Support train preparation activities to ensure readiness for service.
• Coordinate maintenance with colleagues and share updates.
• Mentor apprentices and support less experienced teammates.
• Follow safety procedures, technical instructions and depot standards.
• Maintain a clean, safe and organised working environment.
• Contribute ideas to improve reliability and fleet performance.
