Job summary

University of Oxford is seeking a Night Lodge Porter / Receptionist to join a prestigious college. You will be the first point of contact for students, staff, and visitors, delivering a welcoming and secure environment during night shifts.

The role covers reception, security, and administrative duties, including guest check-ins, mail handling, and monitoring CCTV. Night hours are 6pm–6am on a 3-on 3-off pattern, with weekends; training provided in First Aid and Fire Marshalling.

Qualifications

• Previous experience in a customer-facing and/or security role.
• Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
• Strong customer service skills with the ability to remain calm under pressure.
• IT literate with working knowledge of Microsoft Office and security reporting systems.
• Flexible to work day, night, weekend, and public holiday shifts.
• Strong attention to detail and commitment to confidentiality.
• Willing to undergo training in First Aid, Fire Marshalling, and SIA certification.

Responsibilities

• Provide a professional and courteous reception service to all College members, students, staff, visitors, and contractors.
• Handle telephone, email, and in-person enquiries efficiently, directing them to the appropriate departments as needed.
• Manage guest accommodation check-ins, check-outs, and payments, ensuring accurate records and adherence to procedures.
• Sort, log, and distribute mail and parcels, including registered and confidential items.
• Monitor the safety and security of College premises, including CCTV and alarm systems.
• Conduct security patrols and manage access control, including issuing keys and fobs.
• Respond to and report security incidents and emergencies.
• Support emergency response procedures as a trained First Aider and Fire Marshal (training provided).
