NIGHT LODGE PORTER / RECEPTIONIST

Job summary

Planet Recruitment is recruiting a Lodge Porter (Night) for Oxford's historic college environment. You will be the first point of contact for students, staff, and visitors, handling reception duties, mail, and security checks from 6pm to 6am on a 3 nights on/3 nights off rota.

The role requires strong customer service, security awareness, IT literacy, and the ability to work calmly under pressure. Training in First Aid, Fire Marshalling, and SIA certification will be provided.

Qualifications

• Customer-facing and/or security experience.
• Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.

Responsibilities

• Provide professional reception service to College members, staff, visitors, and contractors.
• Handle telephone, email and in-person enquiries and direct to departments.
• Manage guest accommodation check-ins/check-outs and payments.
• Sort, log and distribute mail and parcels, including confidential items.
• Monitor safety and security, CCTV and alarm systems.
• Conduct security patrols and manage access control (keys/fobs).
• Respond to incidents and emergencies; report appropriately.
• Support emergency response procedures as a trained First Aider and Fire Marshal.

Position: Lodge Porter (Night)

Location: Oxford

Salary: £16 - £18 PER HOUR

Working hours are 3 nights on 3 nights off 6pm - 6am (will include weekends)

Key Duties and Responsibilities:

• Provide a professional and courteous reception service to all College members, students, staff, visitors, and contractors.
• Handle telephone, email, and in-person enquiries efficiently, directing them to the appropriate departments as needed.
• Manage guest accommodation check-ins, check-outs, and payments, ensuring accurate records and adherence to procedures.
• Sort, log, and distribute mail and parcels, including registered and confidential items.
• Monitor the safety and security of College premises, including CCTV and alarm systems.
• Conduct security patrols and manage access control, including issuing keys and fobs.
• Respond to and report security incidents and emergencies.
• Support emergency response procedures as a trained First Aider and Fire Marshal (training provided).

Skills and Experience:

• Previous experience in a customer-facing and/or security role.
• Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
• Strong customer service skills with the ability to remain calm under pressure.
• IT literate with working knowledge of Microsoft Office and security reporting systems.
• Flexible to work day, night, weekend, and public holiday shifts.
• Strong attention to detail and commitment to confidentiality.
• Willing to undergo training in First Aid, Fire Marshalling, and SIA certification.

Desirable:

• Experience working in a college or university environment.
• Current First Aid certificate.
• Experience with 24/7 shift work or similar settings.
