Job summary

Penguin Recruitment is seeking a Newly Qualified Architect in Oxfordshire for a friendly, RIBA-chartered practice focused on conservation and sustainability.

The role offers exposure to historic buildings across concept through to completion, with an experienced team to develop technical and design skills and a range of conservation and heritage projects.

Qualifications

  • AR B registration or equivalent professional qualification.
  • RIBA qualification or recent professional qualification.
  • Experience in UK-based architectural practice, ideally with conservation exposure.
  • Interest in historic buildings and sustainable architectural design.
  • Good design and technical abilities for existing and historic buildings.
  • Experience across stages from concept to construction.
  • Proficient with AutoCAD and producing precise drawings.
  • Understanding of UK planning, building regulations and conservation requirements.
  • Strong communication, organisation and teamwork.
  • Full clean driving licence and ability to travel within Oxfordshire.

Responsibilities

  • Support projects across RIBA stages from concepts to construction.
  • Develop creative proposals for historic and existing buildings.
  • Produce high-quality architectural drawings and technical information.
  • Assist with conservation, repair, restoration and sensitive adaptation.
  • Apply sustainable design to improve performance and longevity.
  • Collaborate with senior architects, clients and consultants.
  • Assist with planning, listed building and other applications.
  • Support project delivery with specifications and coordination.
  • Gain experience in contract administration and construction-stage services.
  • Develop understanding of conservation principles and planning requirements.
  • Take an active role in design development and learning from the team.

Newly Qualified Architect

Location: Oxfordshire

Salary: £34-39,000

A fantastic opportunity has arisen for a talented Newly Qualified Architect with an interest in building conservation to join a friendly, RIBA-chartered practice based in Oxfordshire.

The practice has a strong focus on sustainability and historic buildings, with a passion for enhancing and breathing new life into existing structures through thoughtful, innovative and sensitive design. This is an excellent opportunity for a newly qualified Architect to join an experienced team, develop their technical and design skills and gain valuable experience across a range of conservation and heritage projects from concept through to completion.

Requirements
  • ARB registration and RIBA qualification, or recently achieved professional qualification.
  • Relevant UK-based architectural experience, ideally with some exposure to conservation, heritage or historic buildings.
  • A genuine interest in historic buildings, building conservation and sustainable architectural design.
  • Good design and technical abilities, with an understanding of how existing and historic buildings can be sensitively repaired, adapted and enhanced.
  • Experience working across different project stages, from early design and concept development through to technical design and construction.
  • Good proficiency in AutoCAD, with the ability to produce accurate drawings and design information.
  • A basic understanding of UK planning, building regulations and conservation requirements.
  • Strong communication, organisational and teamwork skills, with the ability to work effectively alongside colleagues, clients and consultants.
  • A full, clean driving licence, access to a car and the ability to travel within the Oxfordshire region would be advantageous.
Role
  • Supporting and contributing to projects across a range of RIBA stages, from initial concepts and feasibility through to construction.
  • Developing creative and sensitive architectural proposals for historic, traditional and existing buildings.
  • Producing high-quality architectural drawings, technical information and presentation material.
  • Assisting with conservation, repair, restoration and sensitive adaptation projects.
  • Applying sustainable design principles to help improve the performance, usability and longevity of existing buildings.
  • Working closely with senior architects, clients, consultants, contractors and other project stakeholders.
  • Assisting with the preparation and submission of planning, listed building and other relevant applications.
  • Supporting project delivery by assisting with programmes, specifications, technical information and coordination.
  • Gaining experience of contract administration and construction-stage services as part of your professional development.
  • Developing your understanding of conservation principles, planning requirements and the technical challenges associated with historic buildings.
  • Taking an active role within the practice, contributing to design development and learning from experienced members of the team.
