Job description

A Vacancy at St George's University Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust.

South West London Pathology (SWLP) is a partnership between four leading hospital trusts: St George's University Hospitals NHS Trust, Kingston Hospital NHS Foundation Trust, Croydon Health Services NHS Trust, and Epsom & St Helier University Hospitals NHS Trust. It aims to provide integrated, high-quality pathology services across South West London.

We are seeking a full-time HCPC-registered Biomedical Scientist to work within the Clinical Blood Sciences laboratory at Epsom and St Helier hospitals. Applications are invited from qualified and motivated State Registered Biomedical Scientists to join our well-established team in this busy UKAS Accredited department.

The Biomedical Scientists in the Haematology and Blood Transfusion section work on Immucor BT analysers, Sysmex CN and XN analysers. The Alinity analysers are used in Biochemistry automation, along with other specialist analysers including Waters TQD, Sebia Capillary electrophoresis, and Agilent HPLC.

This position is for 37.5 hours per week, primarily based at St Helier Hospital, with possible rotation across other SWLP sites. The successful candidate will work a 24/7 shift pattern, including nights, weekends, Bank Holidays, lates, and early shifts.

We are recruiting Band 5 BMSs to support routine Biochemistry, Haematology, Haemostasis screening, and Blood Transfusion services. There are opportunities for multidisciplinary training and rotation through specialised tests such as manual Chemistry and Haemoglobinopathy analysis.

Ideal candidates are enthusiastic, dedicated, flexible, and seeking career development. The role offers comprehensive training and the chance to develop a broad skill set in Blood Sciences within a modern, well-equipped environment.

Our sites include St Georges Hospital, a major trauma centre; St Helier Hospital, home to the South West Thames Renal and Transplantation Unit; and Epsom Hospital, home to the South West London Elective Orthopaedic Centre.

Since becoming a hospitals group in 2021, our Trusts collaborate on research, education, and workforce development, supporting our 17,000 staff.

SWLP is a dynamic, innovative organisation committed to staff development. We encourage applications from individuals eager to learn and grow in all areas of Blood Sciences. The department supports ongoing CPD and further education.

The successful candidate must be HCPC registered, competent within their professional scope, and committed to maintaining high standards of pathology services. We value teamwork, multicultural awareness, and a shared commitment to our core values: excellence, kindness, responsibility, and respect.

This advert closes on Thursday, 15 May 2025.
