Job description

We are recruiting for a Biomedical Scientist who wishes to join #TeamIOWNHS. You should share our passion and drive to ensure that our patients and staff receive quality and compassionate care and work with us to ensure the Trust continues its journey towards being a great place for everyone.

An opportunity has arisen for a full-time Band 5 or Band 6 BMS to join the Blood Sciences team at St. Mary’s Hospital on the Isle of Wight.

The ideal candidate will hold the Specialist Portfolio in Clinical Biochemistry; however, candidates with significant experience in these areas are encouraged to apply. Banding depends on qualifications, but we will support the attainment of the Specialist Portfolio for suitable candidates.

We are looking to appoint an HCPC-registered BMS who can contribute to our service for the residents of the Isle of Wight and visitors. The role involves participating in a 24/7 service once competency is achieved.

Blood Sciences includes Biochemistry, Haematology, and Blood Transfusion Laboratories. The department has recently been refurbished to a high standard, is fully computerised, and equipped with Beckman Coulter DxI800 and AU5812 analysers following recent upgrades. There is also a manual section for additional tests, using Tosoh and Roche analysers.

The Blood Sciences Laboratory holds UKAS accreditation, and the department has IBMS training status, offering Specialist Portfolio and apprenticeship programs.

Our core values are Compassion, Accountability, Respect, and Everyone Counts, guiding us to provide excellent care. We are committed to inclusion, diversity, and fairness throughout our recruitment process.

We invite you to see firsthand the care we provide to our patients and staff. Apply today to join our team.

For enquiries or to arrange an informal visit, contact Peter Stockman, HOS, or Emily White, TLM, at 01983 822099 ext 3575 or via email.

The Isle of Wight NHS Trust is an integrated healthcare provider serving approximately 150,000 residents, offering personalized and flexible services. Benefits include an onsite day nursery, cycle-to-work scheme, discounts, and opportunities to hire Trust facilities like a beach hut in Ryde. We support flexible working arrangements where possible.

The Isle of Wight is a unique location off the South Coast of England, accessible by a short ferry journey from Portsmouth and Southampton, with excellent transport links to London. The island boasts stunning coastlines, countryside, events, festivals, and attractions.

Our 2020-2025 strategy focuses on delivering compassionate, high-quality care and recruiting top talent. We welcome applications from underrepresented groups to promote diversity and inclusion.

Please review the attached person specification document for detailed criteria, which will guide the shortlisting process. For more information on the role’s responsibilities, see the 'Job Description and Main Responsibilities' section and the full job description attached.
