Job summary

VGC is seeking an experienced Multi-Trade Operative to carry out repairs, maintenance and refurbishment works to empty residential properties, ensuring homes are brought back to a high standard ready for new tenants. The role covers carpentry, plumbing, basic masonry and general property maintenance, working across internal and external areas.

You will liaise with residents and management, update task details on mobile systems and maintain vehicles and stock, while following health and safety

Qualifications

• NVQ Level 2 (minimum) in Carpentry, Plumbing, Property Maintenance or related trade.
• Proven experience in carpentry, plumbing and general maintenance.
• Experience in social housing, void properties or responsive repairs.
• Ability to work independently and manage workloads.
• Experience using handheld devices/tablets or mobile job systems.
• Full UK Driving Licence and physically fit for manual duties.

Responsibilities

• Undertake multi-skilled repairs including carpentry, plumbing and basic masonry.
• Carry out internal and external repairs to residential properties and communal areas.
• Deliver high-standard workmanship compliant with regulations.
• Liaise with residents, colleagues and management on progress.
• Update repairs, materials used and status via job management systems.
• Maintain van stock, procure materials and conduct vehicle checks.
• Adhere to health and safety policies and use PPE.
• Participate in out-of-hours emergency rota when required.

Multi-Trade Operative (Empty Homes)

We are seeking an experienced Multi-Trade Operative to carry out repairs, maintenance, and refurbishment works to empty residential properties, ensuring homes are brought back to a high standard ready for new tenants.

Key Responsibilities:

• Undertake a wide range of multi-skilled repairs, including carpentry, plumbing, basic masonry, and general property maintenance.
• Complete both internal and external repairs to residential properties and communal areas.
• Deliver work to a high professional standard, ensuring compliance with all relevant building regulations and best practice.
• Liaise effectively with residents, colleagues, and management regarding progress and completed works.
• Complete repairs efficiently, aiming for first-time completion wherever possible.
• Use mobile devices and job management systems to accurately update repairs, materials used, and completed works.
• Maintain appropriate van stock levels and procure materials as required.
• Carry out vehicle checks and ensure tools, equipment, and vehicles are maintained in good condition.
• Adhere to all health and safety policies, including the use of PPE, risk assessments, and safe working practices.
• Participate in the out-of-hours emergency call-out rota when required.

Requirements:

• NVQ Level 2 (minimum) in Carpentry, Plumbing, Property Maintenance, or a related trade, or equivalent time-served experience.
• Proven experience carrying out a variety of carpentry, plumbing, and general maintenance tasks.
• Experience working within social housing, domestic repairs, void properties, property maintenance, or responsive repairs environments.
• Ability to work independently and manage workloads effectively.
• Experience using handheld devices, tablets, or mobile job management systems.
• Full UK Driving Licence.
• Physically fit and able to undertake manual duties.
• Strong customer service skills and a professional approach at all times.
