Job summary

Service Care is seeking two skilled Multi-Trade Operatives to join the Empty Homes team. You will work across Ascot, Windsor, Reading and Slough, carrying out repairs and refurbishment in vacant properties to bring them up to the re-let standard.

This role covers carpentry, plumbing, masonry and general maintenance, with ownership from start to finish. A clean UK driving licence and the ability to work physically are essential for this demanding field-based position.

Qualifications

• NVQ Level 2 or equivalent in a core trade or time-served experience.
• Experience in carpentry, plumbing and general multi-trade repairs.
• Experience in empty homes/void properties is preferred.
• Full UK driving licence required.

The Role Summary

We are looking for two skilled Multi-Trade Operatives to join a housing provider's Empty Homes team. As part of the Empty Homes team, you'll work across Ascot, Windsor, Reading and Slough, and the surrounding areas, You will carry out repairs, maintenance and refurbishment works within vacant properties, ensuring homes are completed safely, efficiently and to a high standard before being re-let. This is a varied, hands-on role covering carpentry, plumbing, masonry, general maintenance and finishing works. You will take ownership of your allocated properties from start to finish, helping to reduce the time homes remain empty.

Your Key Duties

• Carry out repairs, maintenance and refurbishment works within vacant properties.
• Complete carpentry, plumbing, masonry and general multi-trade tasks.
• Bring empty homes up to the required re-let standard.
• Identify additional repairs and proactively resolve issues before occupation.
• Complete internal and external works, including communal areas, fencing, gardens and general grounds maintenance.
• Ensure all work meets relevant building regulations, codes of practice and quality standards.
• Manage your workload to complete work safely and within agreed timescales.
• Work closely with colleagues, contractors and supervisors to reduce empty-home turnaround times.
• Use schedules of rates to record and cost completed repairs accurately.
• Maintain accurate job records using a smartphone or tablet.
• Order materials through approved suppliers and maintain appropriate van stock.
• Keep the works vehicle, tools and equipment secure and in good condition.
• Support other trades when required.
• Participate in the out-of-hours emergency call-out rota.

Requirements

• Experience completing carpentry, plumbing and general multi-trade repairs.
• Previous experience working within empty homes or void properties.
• Competent in a core trade, with the ability to undertake additional maintenance work.
• NVQ Level 2 or equivalent qualification in carpentry, plumbing, masonry or maintenance operations, or suitable time-served experience.
• Social housing, housing association or local authority experience would be beneficial.
• Ability to take ownership of properties and manage work from start to finish.
• Strong attention to detail and pride in delivering quality workmanship.
• Comfortable using smartphones or tablets to update jobs and timesheets.
• Able to undertake physically demanding work.
• Full clean UK driving licence.
• Willingness to participate in an emergency call-out rota.
