Job summary

Volunteer It Yourself (VIY) is seeking a Freelance Multi-Trade Construction Mentor to guide and coach vulnerable young people on funded youth projects in South Wales, with a focus on Cardiff and Newport. You will teach practical trades, oversee safety, and help learners pursue City & Guilds accreditations while delivering community build projects.

The role offers flexible freelance work with training opportunities and benefits, including travel subsidy and parking coverage, designed for skilled

Qualifications

• Strong hands-on multi-trade experience or qualifications (ideally Carpentry and P&D).
• Solid understanding of site management and Health & Safety procedures.
• Mentoring experience preferred but not essential; ability to motivate and guide young people.

• Ensure Safety: Oversee site Health & Safety, managing risks for your team and the young people.

What We Are Looking For:

• Trade Expertise: Strong hands‑on multi‑trade experience or qualifications (ideally Carpentry and P&D).
• Safety First: Solid understanding of site management and Health & Safety procedures.
• People Skills: A passion for motivating, supporting, and guiding young individuals (prior mentoring experience is preferred but not essential).
• Communication: Excellent interpersonal skills to collaborate with our youth engagement team and assessors.

Job Requirements:

• Mobility: A full clean UK driving licence and access to your own vehicle.
• Background Check: This post involves regulated activity and requires an Enhanced DBS check. (This will be organized and paid for by VIY. A criminal record will not automatically bar you from employment; all applications are assessed fairly on a case‑by‑case basis).
