Job summary

Brighton and Hove City Council is seeking a multi-trade operative to carry out repairs and refurbishment across council homes, with emphasis on trade skills and safety. Work is mainly in occupied properties, solo or in small teams, with residents who may be vulnerable.

You will complete tasks from leaks to kitchens, maintaining high standards of customer service and quality while ensuring safety and cost control. Basic DBS check and a full clean manual driving licence are required.

Qualifications

• City and Guilds or NVQ Level 2 or equivalent in a relevant trade.
• Experienced tradesperson.
• Comfortable interacting with a wide range of residents, including vulnerable people.

Responsibilities

• Carry out multi-trade repairs and refurbishment to residents' homes to high standards of customer service, safety, quality and cost control
• Trace and repair leaks
• Repair plumbing installations such as baths, sinks, basins and WCs
• Repair and maintain wooden and UPVC doors and windows
• Repair and maintain wall and floor finishes, including patch plastering, tiling, storm boarding and sheet flooring
• Repair, maintain and partially replace kitchens
• Maintain and replace ironmongery
• Respond to emergencies to make properties safe and secure and gain entry
• Make good finishes including caulk and sealant, paint, stain, varnish and other finishes
• Work mainly in occupied properties, either alone or in a small team
• Interact with a wide range of residents, some of whom are vulnerable

The work covers leaks, plumbing, doors and windows, wall and floor finishes, kitchens, ironmongery and emergency making-safe, with the focus on trade skill rather than quoting or sourcing materials. Most jobs are in occupied homes, done alone or in small teams, with residents who may be vulnerable. A basic DBS check applies and a full clean manual driving licence is needed.
