About Us

First-Rate Maintenance (FRM) are experts in property maintenance and refurbishments across Tyneside and Newcastle.

FRM was established in February 2020 initially to take on the property maintenance for our sister company, Seekers Property Services - an independent lettings agent with a portfolio in excess of 350 properties - and we now have an established customer base which includes other lettings agents and private customers for which we carry out regular maintenance up to full refurbishments and beyond.

Working Hours

Our standard pattern of working is 40 hours per week between 8:30 and 17:00 Monday to Friday. In addition, overtime is often available at peak business times, particularly in summer. After a qualifying period, all skilled operatives are required to work on our out of hours rota, where you will be on call for out of hours emergencies for two weeks out of the year.

All our operatives are enrolled in our company bonus scheme, which is paid in November each year. This is a discretionary bonus, awarded in accordance with both individual and company performance.

You will receive 25 days of annual leave per year, plus bank holidays. Please note three days per year is reserved for our Christmas shutdown in December.

Salary Range: £28,000 - £35,000 per annum

Job Summary

As a multiskilled joiner, you will be responsible for carrying out repairs and maintenance in residential and commercial properties across Newcastle and the surrounding areas, specialising in joinery.

You will be primarily working on first and second fix joinery in residential settings, with some commercial settings, including the installation and maintenance of fire doors. Whilst you will specialise in joinery, you may be required to undertake all aspects of maintenance within your capability, for example: painting and decorating, minor plumbing, minor electrical work, plastering, and tiling.

Key Responsibilities

As a multi-skilled joiner, you will be required to:

• Perform first fix carpentry tasks, including framing and structural work
• Execute second fix carpentry, including fitting doors, windows, and skirting boards
• Install repair and maintain fire doors in compliance with safety regulations
• Measure and cut materials to precise specifications
• Ensure all work adheres to industry standards and safety guidelines
• Troubleshoot and resolve carpentry related issues on-site
• Maintain tools and equipment in good working condition
• Assist junior and apprentice team members in developing their skills
• Assist the team in general maintenance tasks as required
• Use our time tracking and diary management app to update job progress, including taking detailed notes and pictures as required.
• Adhere to your booked jobs by reviewing your diary and driving as required to the next location
• Drive a company vehicle as required to attend your jobs across the northeast.

• Level 3 NVQ in Joinery or equivalent
• Certificate of competence in fire door installation/maintenance
• Valid CSCS card
• Confident and experienced in a variety of general maintenance tasks
