Job summary

Saputo UK SDUK is seeking a multi-skilled engineer with an electrical bias for our Isle of Bute site, producing branded and retailer-owned dairy-free products. This hands-on role covers fault diagnosis, preventive maintenance, and continuous improvement of PPMs, with CMMS data usage and collaboration with operations and quality teams.

You will work with PLC automation, maintain safety standards (18th Edition), and support R&D activities to scale up lines.

Qualifications

• Experienced multi-skilled engineer with apprenticeship/NVQ3/HNC or equivalent.
• Hands-on knowledge of UK electrical standards and legislations.
• 18th Edition qualification (supported if needed).
• Experience with equipment in food production/manufacturing environments.
• Experience with automation/controls (PLC).
• Knowledge of permits to work, LOTO and H&S requirements on site.
• CMMS proficiency and data interpretation for efficiency improvements.

Responsibilities

• Fault diagnosis, maintenance, and safe servicing per OEM instructions and CMMS.
• Improve asset care standards and site compliance.
• Use data to drive continuous improvement and top-line performance.
• Maintain and archive maintenance documentation per site procedures.
• Provide detailed technical guidance for planning and execution of activities.

• Coordinate with operations and quality teams on timelines and sign-offs.

Shift pattern: Monday-Friday (either 6am to 2.40pm OR 8am to 4.40pm)

We are currently hiring a multi-skilled engineer with an electrical bias at our specialist production site on the Isle of Bute where we primarily produce branded and retailer-own dairy-free products, and have recently moved into producing the Cathedral City Spreadable products. This is a hands‑on role where you will work with a range of equipment across our multi-site operations to help the teams drive for continued site efficiency. Beyond reactive engineering requirements, you will also play a key role in reviewing and improving our PPMs, working with external partners to develop and retain knowledge to ensure best practice and reduce unplanned downtime. You will also be supporting R&D activities, ensuring lines are able to scale up production of new product lines. Equipment you’ll be working with: Block cutters, slicers, graters, weight checkers, hoppers, formers, belt conveyors, elevators, rollers, case packers, automatic pallet wrappers.

YOU’LL MAKE CONTRIBUTIONS THAT MATTER BY…

• Conducting fault diagnosis, maintaining and servicing work safely and efficiently in accordance with OEM instructions, manuals, drawings, CMMS etc.
• Improving asset care standards across the department and ensuring the site is compliant
• Utilising captured data to identify and support development of continuous improvement activities and driving these actions to completion
• Utilising site maintenance systems to ensure all maintenance documentation is completed and archived in accordance with site procedures
• Providing detailed technical guidance for the planning and completion of activities
• Ensuring contractor management and control
• Working closely with operations and quality/technical teams to communicate timelines, updates, and ensure any changes are signed-off

YOU’RE BEST SUITED FOR THE ROLE IF YOU ARE…

• An experienced multi-skilled engineer qualified through an apprenticeship, NVQ level 3, or HNC (or equivalent)
• Able to demonstrate hands‑on knowledge and experience with UK electrical standards and legislations
• 18th Edition qualification (we will support you through this if you don’t already have this)
• Able to demonstrate hands‑on experience with a broad range of equipment and machinery within a food production/manufacturing environment (desirable)
• Experienced working with automation/controls (PLC)
• Demonstratable knowledge of permits to work, LOTO procedures, and other relevant H&S requirements on site
• Comfortable using CMMS and able to interpret data to increase plant efficiency and identify top loss and continuous improvement opportunities
