Job summary

First Military Recruitment is seeking a Multi-Skilled Engineer to provide an effective engineering service to the production team. You will respond promptly to breakdowns and maintenance needs, maintaining equipment to meet KPIs.

The role requires expertise across mechanical and electrical engineering, with a hands-on approach and a focus on safety, housekeeping, and continuous improvement. Shift pattern is 4 days on, 4 off, with potential 2 days/2 nights blocks.

Qualifications

• A recognised qualification for mechanical and electrical engineering.
• Technical Hands-On Engineering Experience, preferably through a recognised time-served apprenticeship within food manufacturing.
• Broad knowledge of hydraulics, pneumatics, mechanical, electrical & PLC/inverter assets.
• Experience in diagnosing faults and preventing downtime in a manufacturing environment.
• Strong focus on safety, and safe working practices.

Responsibilities

• Respond to equipment breakdowns and maintenance needs to support production targets.
• Close out work orders and perform Planned Preventive Maintenance (PPM).
• Enter parts used and jobs completed accurately in the system.
• Maintain workshop housekeeping and ensure audit readiness at all times.
• Maintain compliance with health, safety and hygiene policies.

MS708 - Multi-Skilled Engineer

Overview: First Military Recruitment are currently seeking a Multi-Skilled Engineer on behalf of one of our clients. As a Multi-Skilled Engineer, you will provide an effective engineering service to the production team, responding promptly to breakdowns and maintenance needs. You will maintain equipment both proactively and reactively to ensure factory performance meets targets and KPIs.

Hours: 4 days on 4 off, 2 days followed by 2 nightsOur client encourages applications from ex-military personnel however all candidates will be given due consideration.

Duties and Responsibilities:

• Responsible that the company Health, Safety, Environment and Hygiene policies are adhered to.
• Responsible for managing and closing out all equipment failures, work orders and PPM jobs.
• Responsible for data entry for all parts used & jobs raised & completed.
• Responsible for housekeeping of all workshop areas and ensuring that the department is audit ready at all times.
• Ensure all work is carried out to specification and that food safety standards are met.
• Ensure that targets are met using the appropriate technical support in the correction, prevention and elimination of problems.
• Demonstrate a clear teamwork ethos with the Engineering department and across other departments.
• Excellent timekeeping, attendance and adherence to company procedures.
• Chooses the most appropriate method and tools for communication.
• Respond promptly and effectively to ensure quick resolution to any issues to minimize any downtime, quality and efficiency problems.
• Understand and contribute using a range of risk assessment techniques in order to ensure safety of plant, equipment and people.
• Support a culture that enhances behavioural awareness of quality, safety and the environment.
• Continually strive to reduce costs whilst ensuring production downtime is kept to a minimum.
• Be adaptable to any shift pattern that the company deems necessary for the business.

Skills and Qualifications:

• A recognised qualification for mechanical and electrical engineering.
• Technical Hands-On Engineering Experience, preferably through recognised time-served apprenticeship within food manufacturing.
• Technical qualifications and competence in mechanical/electrical.
• BTEC Engineering certificate/equivalent qualification.
• Broad Knowledge of Hydraulics, Pneumatics, Mechanical, Electrical & PLC/Inverter Assets.
• Skills and capability to logically diagnose and fault find on a variety of equipment/situations.
• Strong experience in ensuring safe working and safe systems of work is utilised and followed.
• Proven ability to get the best from a diverse team through a calm and clear approach.
• Ability to engage positively with production to ensure equipment release for maintenance.
• Experience and knowledge of Lean and Asset Care Excellence techniques.
• Experience of Root cause analysis activities.

Desirable:

• Specific experience of Total Productive Maintenance or 'Operator-Led' Asset Care.
• Knowledge and use of Computerised Maintenance Management Systems (CMMS).
• Working knowledge of Microsoft Office packages.
• Ability to interrogate and program PLCs.
• Experience of working with OEM suppliers to drive improve machine performance /reduce costs.
• Knowledge of H.A.C.C.P. System.
• Proven track record of mentoring within an engineering team.
