Job summary

Northumbria University Accommodation, Gateshead, is seeking a Commercial and Cleaning Manager to lead four student housing sites. You will manage cleaning teams, drive hygiene standards, and ensure safe, welcoming living environments for students.

You'll oversee staffing, inspections, and compliance, champion health and safety, and work with university stakeholders to continually improve service quality and student experience.

Qualifications

• Experience managing cleaning, facilities, housekeeping or hospitality operations.
• Proven ability to lead, motivate and develop operational teams across sites.
• Excellent organisational skills to prioritise workloads and adapt to change.
• Strong knowledge of cleaning standards, Health & Safety and compliance.
• Effective communication and stakeholder management with a customer focus.

Responsibilities

• Lead and motivate cleaning teams across four student accommodation sites.
• Drive exceptional cleaning, presentation and hygiene standards throughout the portfolio.
• Manage staffing, rotas, absence cover and resource planning.
• Carry out inspections, audits and quality checks to ensure standards never slip.
• Champion health, safety and compliance across all areas of responsibility.
• Take ownership of cleaning operations within the on-site Common Ground Café.
• Support student arrivals, departures, commercial stays and key university events.
• Use digital cleaning management systems to improve efficiency, accountability and service delivery.
• Work closely with colleagues, university stakeholders and contractors to continuously improve the student experience.
