Job summary

Howden Group Holdings is offering a Specialist Motor Underwriting Summer Internship Programme in Romford. You will join the underwriting team, gain hands-on exposure to the specialist motor insurance market and work alongside experienced underwriters during a structured induction.

The role focuses on data analysis, reviewing account performance, and developing opportunities to grow our portfolio, with broker meetings and exposure to underwriting decision processes. Hybrid working is available.

Qualifications

• In your penultimate year of university, ideally studying an analytical degree such as Mathematics, Economics, Finance, Engineering or Computer Science.
• Someone who enjoys working with data, solving problems and using evidence to make decisions.
• Confident communicating and building relationships with a wide range of people, both internally and externally.
• Detail‑oriented, with the ability to review information carefully and accurately.
• Comfortable working with numbers and able to analyse information to identify trends, risks and opportunities.

Responsibilities

• Structured induction before joining the underwriting team, where you will work alongside experienced underwriters and gain hands-on exposure to the specialist motor insurance market.
• Support underwriters in reviewing account performance, analysing data and identifying opportunities to grow and improve our portfolio.
• Attend broker meetings and learn how strong relationships are built, maintained and developed across the insurance market.
• Help assess new business opportunities, investigate trends and use data to support underwriting decisions.
• Assist with responding to technical queries from brokers and operational teams, while gaining insight into how underwriting teams balance risk, service and commercial performance.
