Job summary

The RAC is recruiting a Mobile Vehicle Technician for its SMR division in the Northampton cluster, covering areas such as Northampton, Kettering, Corby and surrounding towns. You’ll work on a clearly planned schedule of pre-booked jobs, not reactive callouts, using a fully equipped RAC van.

Expect to perform routine servicing, diagnostics with advanced mobile tools, and in‑depth repairs, while offering member advice and ensuring RAC safety standards are met.

Qualifications

• NVQ Level 2 qualification in Light Vehicle Maintenance or equivalent required.
• 5+ years’ experience as a vehicle technician/mechanic preferred.
• Full UK driving licence with fewer than six points.

Responsibilities

• Carry out routine servicing and diagnostics using mobile equipment.
• Perform in‑depth repairs you would normally do in a workshop.
• Provide member advice and recommendations based on inspection results.
• Conduct vehicle safety checks aligned to RAC standards.
• Work from a pre-booked schedule with a fully equipped RAC van.

Education

NVQ Level 2 qualification in Light Vehicle Maintenance (or equivalent)

5+ years’ experience as a Vehicle Technician/Mechanic

Full UK driving licence
