Job summary

Smart Solutions is recruiting a Mobile Plant Operative (MPO) in Coventry to help keep a busy Materials Recovery Facility running safely and efficiently. The role covers Loading Shovel operations or FLT driving, with full training available for the area you don’t yet know.

You will work 5 days a week on rotating AM/PM shifts, with a strong emphasis on health and safety, teamwork, and a proactive attitude to learn and develop both skill sets for ongoing career opportunities.

Qualifications

• Experience in loading shovel operation or FLT driving preferred.

Responsibilities

• Safely operate a Loading Shovel in a busy recycling environment.
• Feed material into the MRF safely and efficiently.
• Manage vehicle and pedestrian movements on site and maintain awareness of surroundings.
• Safely operate an FLT within a yard environment when required.
• Load outbound vehicles and handle baled recyclables.
• Maintain high housekeeping and site safety standards and support daily operations.

Location: Coventry, CV3 4AR
Pay Rate: £14.48 per hour
Pay Frequency: Weekly Pay
Working Days: Monday to Friday
Shift Pattern: Rotating AM / PM shifts

Smart Solutions are currently recruiting for reliable, safety-focused and experienced Mobile Plant Operatives (MPOs) to join a busy recycling operation in Coventry.

This is an excellent opportunity for candidates with experience in either Loading Shovel Operation or Forklift Truck Driving who are willing to learn and develop their skills in the other area.

You do not need to have experience in both areas from day one. Full training and development will be available for the right candidate.

The Role

As a Mobile Plant Operative, you will play an important role in keeping a busy Materials Recovery Facility (MRF) running safely and efficiently.

The position combines two key areas of the operation:

Loading Shovel Operations

• Safely operate a Loading Shovel within a busy recycling environment.
• Feed recyclable material into the MRF safely and efficiently.
• Manage changing vehicle and pedestrian movements around the site.
• Maintain excellent awareness of your surroundings at all times.
• Make safe and responsible decisions in a busy operational environment.
• Help keep the plant supplied and operating efficiently.
• Take responsibility for the safe operation and care of machinery.

Forklift Operations

• Safely operate an FLT within a busy yard environment.
• Load outbound vehicles safely and efficiently.
• Handle baled recyclable materials, including paper and cardboard bales.
• Ensure materials are positioned and handled correctly.
• Take care when handling finished products to protect their quality.
• Maintain high standards of housekeeping and site safety.
• Work closely with the wider MRF team to support daily operations.

You Do Not Need Both Skills

We are happy to consider candidates who are highly experienced in one area but have limited or no experience in the other.

You will be expected to work closely with drivers, plant operators and other members of the MRF team to ensure the site operates safely and efficiently.

Shift Pattern

Monday to Friday

AM Shift: 5:00am – 2:00pm
PM Shift: 2:00pm – 11:00pm

The shifts operate on a rotating basis:

One week on AM shift, followed by one week on PM shift.
