Job summary

Smart Solutions in Newport is seeking an experienced Loading Shovel Operator to join the busy site. You will safely move waste and recyclable materials, conduct pre-start checks, and help maintain high health and safety standards.

This full-time role offers £14 per hour, paid weekly on Fridays, with a £130 bonus for weekend days worked. Shifts are Monday to Friday, 6am–5pm or 5pm–4am, and there is an opportunity for long-term work with a well-established employer.

Qualifications

• Experience operating a loading shovel in waste/recycling/industrial environments.
• Valid loading shovel operator licence or competency certificate.
• Good understanding of health and safety procedures.
• Reliable, hardworking, and team oriented.

Responsibilities

• Safely and efficiently operate a loading shovel to move waste and recyclable materials around the site.
• Carry out daily pre-start inspections and routine maintenance checks, reporting any defects promptly.
• Ensure all work is completed in line with company Health & Safety procedures, environmental legislation, and site rules.
• Work closely with site supervisors, plant operators, and colleagues to achieve daily production targets.
• Follow site traffic management procedures and remain aware of pedestrians, mobile plant, and other vehicles at all times.
• Wear and maintain the required PPE and promote safe working practices across the site.
• Assist with general yard and recycling plant duties when required.
• Operate other mobile plant equipment where trained and authorised to support site operations.

Our client, a leading business within the waste and recycling industry, is looking for an experienced Loading Shovel Operator to join their busy site. This is an excellent opportunity for a reliable and safety-conscious operator seeking stable, ongoing work with a well-established company.

As a Loading Shovel Operator, you'll play a key role in the day-to-day running of the site, ensuring materials are moved safely and efficiently while maintaining high standards of health, safety, and environmental compliance.

Key Responsibilities
