Job summary

SMT GB is seeking a Field Service Engineer to cover Warrington and surrounding areas. You will service, repair and maintain Volvo Construction Equipment and allied machinery at customer sites, ensuring maximum uptime and promoting SMT GB’s aftermarket products.

The role requires strong diagnostic and mechanical skills, ability to work independently, and excellent customer communication. A full UK driving licence and field-based flexibility are essential.

Qualifications

• Formal engineering qualification in Plant Maintenance, Agricultural Engineering, HGV Mechanics or related discipline
• Proven experience repairing and maintaining heavy construction plant, agricultural machinery, HGVs or similar
• Strong diagnostic and fault-finding skills across diesel engines, transmissions, hydraulics and electrical systems
• Ability to read and interpret technical manuals, wiring diagrams and service information
• Experience using diagnostic tools and electronic service systems
• Excellent problem-solving abilities and a methodical approach to fault diagnosis
• Good communication skills and ability to build relationships with customers and colleagues
• Strong IT skills and confidence using digital reporting systems and mobile technology
• Commercially aware with focus on customer service and identifying opportunities
• Ability to manage workload and prioritize tasks
• Commitment to health, safety and environmental standards
• High attention to detail and professional approach
• Willingness to participate in overtime and call-outs
• Full UK driving licence

Responsibilities

• Service, maintain and repair Volvo Construction Equipment and associated machinery
• Diagnose and resolve mechanical, hydraulic and electrical faults using diagnostic equipment
• Identify additional service opportunities and discuss with customers and internal teams
• Carry out work in line with quotations and time guides, highlighting additional work
• Install software updates and system enhancements when released
• Complete electronic job cards, reports and timesheets in real time
• Order and manage parts required for repairs and return parts promptly on completion
• Support call-out and overtime requirements as needed
• Attend product and systems training to maintain technical competence
• Ensure all work is completed safely per standards
