Job summary

Education Authority (Northern Ireland) is seeking a Catering Assistant to support the Senior/Unit Catering Supervisor in all aspects of meal preparation and cooking. You will work as part of a team to deliver hygienic, high-quality meals and contribute to customer satisfaction and sales within the unit.

The role involves assisting with menus, portion control, dietary meals, record-keeping, hygiene control, staff supervision, and day-to-day kitchen operations.

Qualifications

• NVQ level 2 in food preparation and cooking or City & Guilds 706-1 & 706-2 or equivalent (OR two years’ experience in catering)
• Knowledge of Hazard Analysis Critical Control Point (HACCP)
• Willingness to undertake job related training and have access to suitable transport (vehicle or acceptable alternative)

Responsibilities

• Assist with the full range of meals, including menu preparation, portion control, and special dietary meals.
• Record keeping and oversight of hygiene, health and safety in the kitchen.
• Assist with supervision and training of staff; general kitchen management in absence of supervisor.
• Operational control of service points including transported meals.
• Stock-taking, stores/fridges management, and receipt of deliveries.
• General kitchen duties: washing up, setting up/clearing, cleaning kitchen and dining areas.
• Promote the service to parents, principals and customers to increase uptake.
• Secure premises as required and carry out delegated duties.
