Job summary

RG Setsquare is seeking an experienced Mobile Combustion Engineer to service and repair commercial and domestic boilers across the Midlands. You will perform planned and reactive maintenance, breakdown repairs, and commissioning, while updating CAFM systems and maintaining strong customer relations.

The role requires gas safety qualifications, a full UK licence and the ability to travel between sites. A permanent, full-time position with a company vehicle and 40-hour weeks is offered.

Qualifications

• Recognised industry qualifications in gas, combustion or plumbing.
• CCN1 – Core Domestic Gas Safety – essential for domestic work.
• COCN1 – Core Commercial Gas Safety – essential for commercial work.
• CPA1 – Combustion Performance Analysis.
• CENWAT – domestic boiler qualification.
• CODNCO1, CIGA1, CDGA1, ICPN1 – applicable pipework/ appliances.

Responsibilities

• Service, maintain and repair commercial and domestic boilers and combustion equipment.
• Work on commercial boilers, gas equipment, radiant heaters, water heaters and control valves.
• Attend multiple sites across the Midlands (Birmingham and wider West Midlands).
• Perform PPM, reactive maintenance and breakdown works.
• Complete maintenance documentation and CAFM entries in real time.
• Record plant faults and raise quotations for remedial works.

We're Hiring: Mobile Combustion Engineer

We are recruiting for an experienced Mobile Combustion Engineer to work across a range of commercial and domestic sites throughout the Midlands. This is an excellent opportunity for a qualified Combustion Engineer with strong commercial and domestic boiler experience to join a mobile engineering team, carrying out planned preventative maintenance, reactive repairs, servicing, breakdowns and commissioning across a varied portfolio of sites.

Key Responsibilities

• Service, maintain and repair commercial and domestic boilers and combustion equipment.


• Work on commercial boilers, associated gas equipment, gas-fired radiant heaters, water heaters and control valves.


• Attend multiple sites across the Midlands, predominantly covering Birmingham, Stoke-on-Trent and the wider West Midlands.


• Complete planned preventative maintenance (PPM), reactive maintenance and breakdown works.


• Ensure all relevant maintenance paperwork and documentation is completed accurately and submitted promptly.


• Complete electronic forms and supplementary documentation relating to maintenance activities.


• Update CAFM systems in real time with start, wait, stop and completion times.


• Provide clear descriptions of works undertaken and identify any follow-on works required.


• Respond to reactive maintenance requirements and ensure tasks are completed within required timescales.


• Proactively identify opportunities for improvement across sites and equipment.


• Identify and record plant failures and raise quotations where remedial works are required.


• Maintain professional relationships with customers and site representatives.


• Participate in the on-call rota.


• Ensure all works are carried out safely and in accordance with relevant legislation, procedures and industry standards.

Requirements

• Recognised industry qualification in gas, combustion, plumbing or a related discipline.


• CCN1 – Core Domestic Gas Safety – essential for domestic work.


• COCN1 – Core Commercial Gas Safety – essential for commercial work.


• CPA1 – Combustion Performance Analysis.


• CENWAT – domestic boiler qualification.


• Commercial/domestic appliance and relevant pipework qualifications, such as CODNCO1, CIGA1, CDGA1 and ICPN1, as applicable.


• BMP1 – Gas Boosters / Medium Pressure – desirable/relevant.


• CCP1 – Commissioning of Commercial Plant – desirable/relevant.


• CDGA1 – Commissioning and Servicing Direct-Fired Heaters – desirable/relevant.


• City & Guilds Level 3 Plumbing or equivalent.


• Trade-qualified Combustion Engineer with appropriate post-apprenticeship experience.


• Strong experience working with commercial and domestic boilers.


• Good understanding of planned and reactive maintenance.


• Full UK driving licence – essential.


• Must be able to successfully pass an Enhanced DBS check with Barred Lists where required.


• Strong communication, organisational and customer-service skills.


• Comfortable using CAFM systems and completing digital maintenance records.
