Job summary

Reed Specialist Recruitment is seeking a Mobile Combustion & Mechanical Engineer to support a portfolio of commercial and energy centre sites across London and surrounding areas.

You will carry out planned and reactive maintenance on large boiler systems (250kW–10MW), AHUs, FCUs, HIUs, and associated plant, with a focus on safety and reliability. This field-based role requires a UK driving licence and robust communication with clients.

Qualifications

• Valid Commercial Gas Qualifications.
• Proven experience as a Commercial Gas Engineer in Building Services, Energy Centres, District Heating or Critical Plant environments.
• Strong mechanical maintenance and fault-finding skills.
• Experience on large commercial boilers and associated mechanical plant.
• Good understanding of HVAC and M&E systems.
• Full UK Driving Licence.
• Strong communication and customer-facing skills.

Responsibilities

• Carry out planned and reactive maintenance within plant room environments.
• Service and maintain commercial boilers ranging from 250kW to 10MW.
• Maintain gas boosters, plate heat exchangers, flue systems and gas safety equipment.
• Carry out pump overhauls, bearing changes, seal replacements, valve repairs and pipework modifications.
• Service and fault-find on AHUs, FCUs, HIUs, chillers, cooling towers and HVAC plant.
• Conduct water treatment monitoring and support Legionella compliance.
• Attend breakdowns and emergency call-outs as required.
• Produce service reports and recommend remedial works and plant improvements.
• Liaise with clients, site contacts and subcontractors to ensure excellent service delivery.
• Ensure all works are completed in line with Health & Safety regulations and company procedures.

Location: Greater London, West End, City of London & Home Counties

Salary: £55,000 - £60,000 DOE + Company Van + Pension

Job Type: Permanent

Hours: Monday to Friday, 8:00am - 5:00pm

About the Role

Due to continued growth within a specialist Energy Centre Services division, an exciting opportunity has arisen for an experienced Mobile Combustion & Mechanical Engineer to join a growing engineering team supporting a portfolio of commercial and energy centre sites across London and the surrounding areas.

This role is ideally suited to a skilled Commercial Gas Engineer with strong mechanical knowledge who enjoys working on a variety of critical plant, heating and energy centre systems. You will be responsible for carrying out planned preventative maintenance, reactive repairs, fault finding and plant optimisation across a diverse range of sites.

Key Responsibilities

• Carry out planned and reactive maintenance within plant room environments.
• Service and maintain commercial gas boilers ranging from 250kW to 10MW.
• Maintain associated equipment including gas boosters, plate heat exchangers, flue systems and gas safety equipment.
• Carry out pump overhauls, bearing changes, seal replacements, valve repairs and pipework modifications.
• Service and fault-find on AHUs, FCUs, HIUs, chillers, cooling towers, pressurisation units and associated HVAC plant.
• Conduct water treatment monitoring and support Legionella compliance activities.
• Carry out basic electrical fault finding, motor testing and BMS monitoring.
• Attend breakdowns and emergency call-outs as required.
• Produce service reports and recommend remedial works and plant improvements.
• Liaise with clients, site contacts and subcontractors to ensure excellent service delivery.
• Ensure all works are completed in line with Health & Safety regulations and company procedures.

Requirements

Essential

• Valid Commercial Gas Qualifications.
• Proven experience working as a Commercial Gas Engineer within Building Services, Energy Centres, District Heating or Critical Plant environments.
• Strong mechanical maintenance and fault-finding skills.
• Experience working on large commercial boilers and associated mechanical plant.
• Good understanding of HVAC and M&E systems.
• Full UK Driving Licence.
• Strong communication and customer-facing skills.
• Ability to work independently and manage workload effectively.

Desirable

• Time-served Mechanical or Electrical Apprenticeship.
• HNC/HND qualification.
• Legionella (L8) awareness and experience.
• Experience working within energy centres or district heating networks.
• Experience using CAFM systems.
