Job summary

Academics Ltd is seeking dedicated MLD Teaching Assistants to support pupils across Retford’s specialist provisions. You will deliver targeted, differentiated instruction and run small-group interventions, helping learners access the curriculum with confidence and patience.

You will work closely with classroom staff to adapt activities, monitor progress, and contribute to EHCP reviews while maintaining a calm, resilient approach in busy settings.

Qualifications

• Minimum Level 3 Teaching Assistant qualification or equivalent experience in education, youth work or care.
• Experience supporting children with moderate learning difficulties, SEMH or additional needs.
• Strong understanding of differentiation, phonics and adaptive teaching strategies.
• Excellent communication skills with a calm, resilient approach.
• Enhanced DBS via Update Service or willingness to apply.
• Two professional references covering recent employment.

Responsibilities

• Provide targeted in-class support to pupils with MLD, helping access a differentiated curriculum.
• Deliver small-group and 1:1 interventions to boost literacy, numeracy and communication.
• Use positive behaviour strategies to build confidence, independence and social interaction.
• Work with teachers to adapt resources and activities for individual learning styles.
• Support pupils with associated needs such as speech and language delays or dyslexia.
• Contribute to EHCP reviews and progress tracking, feeding back to SENCO.
