Job summary

Mott MacDonald seeks a Midlands Planning Team Leader to lead and grow the Birmingham-based planning team, delivering major projects across rail, energy, housing, regeneration, and infrastructure. You will manage planning applications, engage with authorities, and help win work while mentoring junior colleagues.

Reporting to the UK Town Planning team leader, you will build relationships across the business and drive high-quality outputs with a collaborative, budget-focused approach.

Qualifications

• Degree and/or Masters in Town Planning.
• Chartered Member of the RTPI.
• Extensive town planning experience across a range of consenting regimes including Town and Country Planning Act 1990, DCOs and TWAOs.
• Experience preparing and submitting planning applications and drafting reports.
• Experience delivering infrastructure, regeneration and environmental projects.
• Experience overseeing and/or project managing multidisciplinary projects.
• Experience mentoring junior team members and supporting professional development.
• Strong collaborative approach with track record of successful project delivery.
• Experience managing project finances and delivering projects within budget.

Responsibilities

• Lead and grow the Midlands Planning Team based in Birmingham city centre.
• Deliver planning projects and coordinate multidisciplinary inputs.
• Write and review planning deliverables such as applications, assessments, and policy advice.
• Coordinate planning applications and liaise with Local Planning Authorities and consultees.
• Lead bids and development opportunities for new work.
• Mentor junior team members and support chartership progress.
• Develop relationships across the business to secure opportunities.
