Job summary

Mott MacDonald in Manchester seeks a Senior or Principal Town Planner to grow and lead a team, with offices in Altrincham, Leeds and Liverpool, and flexibility to work from these locations. You will develop links within the Manchester city region and drive strategic planning across sectors.

You will work on major projects across transport, energy, water, education, housing and regeneration, leading planning applications, coordinating multi-disciplinary inputs, and supporting junior staff toward

Qualifications

• Degree or Masters in Town Planning.
• Extensive town planning experience across consenting types incl. TCPA 1990, DCO, TWAO.
• Chartered Member of the RTPI.
• Experience leading planning applications, drafting reports, feasibility studies and regeneration strategies.
• Experience with client bodies including both private and public sector.
• Experience in infrastructure, regeneration and environmental projects.
• Experience overseeing or managing multidisciplinary projects.
• Experience mentoring junior staff and supporting chartership.
• Experience working in teams to deliver projects and financial accountability.

Responsibilities

• Deliver planning projects within a multi-disciplinary team, potentially leading others.
• Lead production of high‑quality planning deliverables, options appraisals and consent strategies.
• Coordinate inputs for planning applications, including reviews by junior staff and sub‑consultants.
• Liaise with Local Planning Authorities and statutory consultees to secure timely determinations.
• Lead bids for new work and support junior staff in their professional development.
• Develop and drive growth strategy for the Manchester team in line with business goals.
