Job summary

Public Health Wales is seeking a Biomedical Support Worker to join the Microbiology team based at Bronglais Hospital, Aberystwyth. You will be enthusiastic, well-motivated and innovative with good organisational and practical abilities supported by scientific knowledge.

The successful candidate will participate in a wide range of routine laboratory tasks including quality control, specimen processing, maintenance of equipment, operation of automated equipment, waste disposal and clerical duties,

Qualifications

• GCSE English, Mathematics, and a Science-related subject or equivalent.
• Understands and can apply the requirements of good laboratory practice.
• Understands the importance of quality assurance systems.
• Experience of working in a laboratory.

Responsibilities

• Participate in a wide range of routine laboratory tasks including quality control and specimen processing.
• Maintenance of equipment and operation of automated equipment.
• Waste disposal and clerical duties in support of microbiological diagnostic services.
• Adhere to strict health and safety practices and follow written SOPs.
• Work on a rota including weekdays, weekends and bank holidays.
