Job summary

ALS is seeking a conscientious Microbiologist to join our Trowbridge laboratory. You will perform a range of microbiological tests, document results, and support training while upholding ISO 9001:2015 and ISO 17025:2017 standards.

The role requires accurate data recording, strong attention to detail, and the ability to work within defined deadlines on a Monday–Friday start schedule with later permanent shifts. On-site in Trowbridge, UK.

Qualifications

  • Minimum 5 GCSEs including Science, English and Mathematics.
  • Sound theoretical and practical knowledge of microbiology with experience across methods.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills with attention to detail.
  • Able to work independently, manage priorities and meet deadlines.

Responsibilities

  • Carry out microbiological testing including plate counting, identification and confirmation per documented methods.
  • Enter and approve test results accurately, meeting client and method deadlines.
  • Maintain a clean, organised laboratory environment and proper waste disposal.
  • Monitor stock levels and request replenishment; provide training where needed.
  • Adhere to health, safety and quality procedures, including PPE and incident reporting.
