The Shyft Group USA, Inc., seeks a Manufacturing Engineer in Bristol, IN to support the Utilimaster brand by evaluating tools and equipment process options to reduce operation costs. The role involves obtaining necessary approvals for investments in machinery and equipment to improve manufacturing and assembly operations, producing engineering drawings for design fixturing and tooling, and implementing lean manufacturing principles such as visual controls, pull inventory systems within a process, workplace organization, and continuous improvement.
The Manufacturing Engineer will provide technical support for production operations, including tooling, fixturing, and process troubleshooting, utilizing existing systems and procedures, and exploring new technologies and methods to enhance operations. Responsibilities also include monitoring and addressing safety and ergonomic issues, supporting the Continuous Improvement (CI) team in developing lean events, participating in the WOW (War On Waste) program, and supporting the New Product Introduction (NPI) process by evaluating tooling and equipment needs for new projects.
The role emphasizes driving continuous improvement, waste elimination, workstation load balancing, verifying torque and high-risk part specifications, tracking welder certifications, and managing plant layouts such as production lines, office space, and warehousing. The engineer will investigate problems, determine root causes, and implement corrective actions by collaborating with cross-functional teams.
Keeping abreast of manufacturing developments through literature, professional programs, and conferences is essential. The role requires proficiency with CAD (SolidWorks), Microsoft Office, Power BI, GD&T, SPS, and core procedures.
