Job summary

Sodexo in Wallingford is looking for a Mess Steward to join a friendly team delivering high-quality dining and hospitality. You will help keep the mess running smoothly and ensure customers receive a welcoming and professional experience.

You'll work 37.5 hours per week across 5 days and support catering and functions as needed. A full clean driving licence and previous catering/mess experience are beneficial, with opportunities to develop within a large organisation.

Qualifications

• Previous experience in catering, hospitality or mess environment preferred.
• Good communication skills; able to work with customers and colleagues.
• Able to work independently and as part of a team.
• Strong attention to detail; follow procedures and maintain standards.
• Full clean driving licence required; military environment or safety knowledge advantageous.

Responsibilities

• Keep the dining room, associated areas and delivery vehicles clean and welcoming by completing all scheduled cleaning tasks.
• Support refreshment services, functions and function preparation across other areas when required.
• Use and store cleaning equipment, machinery, materials and chemicals safely, following procedures.
• Maintain high standards of service and communication with colleagues, customers and clients.
• Report accidents, near misses, faulty equipment or delivery issues promptly to Line Manager and monitor stock and supplies.

What you'll do:

• Keep the dining room, associated areas and delivery vehicles clean, tidy and welcoming by completing all scheduled cleaning tasks.


• Support refreshment services, functions and function preparation across other areas when required.


• Use and store cleaning equipment, machinery, materials and chemicals safely, following all relevant procedures and safe systems of work.


• Maintain excellent standards of service and communication, building positive relationships with colleagues, customers and clients.


• Report any accidents, near misses, faulty equipment or delivery issues promptly to your Line Manager, while helping to monitor stock and supplies to ensure they are replenished when needed.

What you bring:

• Previous experience working in a catering, hospitality or mess environment is preferred.


• Good communication skills, with the ability to communicate clearly and work well with customers and colleagues.


• Able to work independently, use your own initiative and contribute positively as part of a team.


• Strong attention to detail, with a commitment to following procedures and maintaining high standards.


• Full clean driving licence required. Experience in a military environment, leadership skills, Health & Safety or Food Safety knowledge and MS Office experience would be an advantage.
