Job description

Join us, be part of more.

We’re more than an energy company; we’re a family of brands revolutionising how we power the planet. We're energisers, a team of 21,000 colleagues energising a greener, fairer future by creating an energy system that doesn’t rely on fossil fuels, while living our commitment to positive community change. Here, you find purpose, passion, and potential. That’s why working here is #MoreThanACareer. We do energy differently — we make it, store it, move it, sell it, and mend it.

Centrica’s Group M&A team leads the origination and execution of M&A activities for Centrica plc. Supported by a strong balance sheet, M&A is key to our growth strategy, deploying significant cash towards value-adding inorganic growth in core markets.

The team maintains regular dialogue with market participants to gather intelligence and identify business development opportunities. It is a highly regarded team within Centrica, often advising Executive Management and Business Units on strategic options.

What You'll Be Doing:

  • Working with senior team members, Business Units, and Group Strategy to identify and analyze potential M&A opportunities to build the pipeline.
  • Evaluating and executing M&A transactions, including buy-side, sell-side, joint ventures, and partnerships.
  • Managing complex M&A/corporate finance projects, leading junior colleagues, and interacting across Business Units, Corporate Centre functions, and external advisers.
  • Building complex financial models for asset valuation and impact analysis from first principles.
  • Conducting detailed financial analyses such as valuation (DCF, comparables), cash flow, and credit analysis.
  • Addressing key issues from due diligence and transaction documentation, including purchase price adjustments.
  • Contributing to innovative solutions for M&A and corporate finance transactions.
  • Preparing presentations and memos for the Group Board, senior teams, and executives regarding transactions.
  • Mentoring and training analysts in the M&A team.

What We're Looking For:

  • Finance qualification such as ACA, ACCA, CIMA, CFA, or equivalent, or working towards it.
  • Experience in M&A, business development, or corporate finance, including valuation and transaction execution.
  • Strong understanding of corporate finance theory and practice.
  • Experience engaging with senior executives and key stakeholders in confidential environments.
  • Ability to develop complex financial models from first principles.
  • High intellectual capability with a growth mindset, capable of analyzing large, complex data sets to develop concise, persuasive arguments.
  • Advanced skills in Excel and PowerPoint.
  • Strong organizational, project management, and teamwork skills.
  • Ability to operate independently, set goals, and deliver in a fast-paced environment.
  • Excellent communication skills and stakeholder relationship-building ability.
  • Willingness to learn about energy, utility, and capital markets.
