Job Description:

At Arcadis, we focus on attracting, retaining, and developing people who share our passion and commitment to improving quality of life. We offer opportunities to transform your world and those around you through client work, upskilling, championing equality and inclusion, or charity involvement. Our core value is 'people first', and supported by our Lovinklaan foundation, we invest in your long-term growth to help you reach your full potential. You will have the opportunity to own your career and work on industry-defining projects, finding solutions to real challenges that impact lives. We encourage a growth mindset and provide space for personal and professional development, enabling a flexible career path.

Role description

The role welcomes applicants with a strong building services engineering background, whether through an MEP contracting, consulting, or facilities management career. Candidates should have a good working knowledge of commercial mechanical, electrical, and public health installations, along with an understanding of MEP regulations and standards.

Operating within our specialist Technical Due Diligence (TDD) team within the Lenders, Investors & Insurers sector, the MEP Engineering Surveyor will support the team on building services surveying and technical assessments across residential, commercial, and light industrial property portfolios.

The primary role involves assessing service installations (Heating, Ventilation, Air Conditioning, Electrical, Vertical transportation, Drainage, etc.), understanding their design and configuration, and providing insights into their condition, performance, and operational risks. This includes non-intrusive inspections, reviewing maintenance and statutory compliance, identifying defects, and assessing future lifecycle replacement needs considering obsolescence. Reports will also evaluate commercial factors affecting investments, identify risks, and recommend mitigation strategies.

The Surveyor will actively survey and inspect property services, prepare defect and technical reports, and engage directly with clients. For larger portfolios, support in management and coordination with suppliers to ensure quality and timely delivery is essential.

This role offers an opportunity to deepen MEP knowledge, understand lease structures, ownership, and investment strategies in transactional environments. The successful candidate will contribute to our Asset Assurance and Management services, providing technical advisory, surveying, and project monitoring for clients.

Role accountabilities
  • Operate independently with attention to detail and organization.
  • Prepare technical reports with concise, commercial advice.
  • Represent the company professionally, building strong client relationships.
  • Develop good communication skills (written and oral).
  • Manage client expectations and ensure timely, accurate work delivery.
  • Guide junior team members.
  • Maintain professional appearance and articulation.
  • Demonstrate project and program management capabilities.
  • Work away from the home office and potentially abroad for short periods, with prior agreement.
  • Be eligible for security checks such as DBS.
Qualifications & Experience
  • Engineering qualifications, ideally with experience in electrical/mechanical trades.
  • Relevant educational qualifications (ONC/HNC/HND/Degree) preferred but not mandatory.
  • Experience in a similar role, such as M&E consulting within Asset Management, is desirable.
  • Experience working within the built environment and technical report writing.
