Job Summary
As a Mental Health Support Worker, you will provide essential care and assistance to individuals experiencing mental health challenges. You will support service users in managing their daily activities, promoting their well-being, and encouraging independence while ensuring a safe and supportive environment.
Key Responsibilities
Providing Personalised Support
- Assist individuals with daily living tasks, such as personal care, meal preparation, and household chores.
- Support service users in maintaining their independence and improving their quality of life.
- Encourage and facilitate social interaction and engagement in community activities.
Mental Health Support & Well-Being
- Offer emotional support and active listening to service users experiencing distress.
- Support individuals with managing anxiety, depression, and other mental health conditions.
- Implement coping strategies and support therapeutic interventions as directed by mental health professionals.
Medication & Healthcare Support
- Prompt and assist with medication management in line with care plans and policies.
- Monitor and report any changes in a service user's mental or physical health to the relevant professionals.
- Liaise with nurses, social workers, and medical professionals to ensure coordinated care.
Crisis Management & Safeguarding
- Respond effectively to crises and de-escalate situations in a calm and professional manner.
- Follow safeguarding protocols to protect vulnerable individuals from harm.
- Maintain accurate records of incidents, interventions, and progress.
Record-Keeping & Compliance
- Maintain accurate case notes and documentation in line with organisational policies.
- Ensure confidentiality and adhere to GDPR regulations.
- Comply with relevant health and safety policies.
Essential Skills & Requirements
- Experience in mental health, social care.
- Ability to remain calm under pressure and manage challenging behaviours.
- Understanding of safeguarding and confidentiality principles.
- Ability to work both independently and as part of a team.
- A caring, patient, and empathetic approach to supporting individuals.
- CPI training or MAPA is essential!
