Job summary
An opportunity has arisen within the Oncology Department for an experienced, hardworking, efficient, and self-motivated person to join our team as a Medical Secretary, working 37.5 hours per week. This busy and interesting role requires effective communication with the Oncology team, other departments, patients, and service users. You should possess excellent communication and interpersonal skills, work well independently and as part of a team, and deliver high-quality, efficient service. A thorough working knowledge of Microsoft Office packages is essential. An RSA II qualification is desirable, and understanding medical terminology would be an advantage. Reliability, punctuality, integrity, and the ability to work calmly under pressure are key qualities, along with excellent organizational skills.
***Preference will be given to internal Trust staff, as well as 'Priority' and 'At Risk' status including NHS At Risk staff throughout Devon who can demonstrate recent relevant experience as per the Person Specification.***
Main duties of the job
Main Duties:
- Provide administrative support for 2 Consultants and other clinical staff.
- Liaise with patients to book appointments.
- Monitor and validate primary target lists.
- Audio typing of clinic dictations.
- Action data quality reports.
- Coordinate with other Trusts and multidisciplinary teams.

Job descriptionJob responsibilitiesCoordinate and deliver a comprehensive medical secretarial and personal assistant service to Consultant Oncologists and clinical team members efficiently and proactively. Maintain good communication between consultants, patients, carers, and health professionals.
Contribute to patient care delivery through knowledge of hospital systems and consultant practices.
Supervise trainee/junior staff, bank/agency staff, and filing clerks as necessary. Maintain strict patient confidentiality in accordance with the Trust’s policies.
Person SpecificationExperienceEssential- Proven clerical experience
- Experience within the NHS
Desirable- Experience in a large clinical setting
- Knowledge of iPM & Aria systems
QualificationsEssential- NVQ 3 in Business and Administration or equivalent
Desirable- ECDL
- NVQ in Administration

Desirable- Experience in audio typing of medical terminology
