Job summary

Oakside Surgery (part of Dewerstone Medical Group) seeks two medical receptionists for 24 hours per week, Monday–Friday, with occasional Saturday shifts every five weeks. The role is in-person across our site(s), emphasizing friendly patient service and accurate administration.

You will manage telephone and email enquiries, book appointments in SystmOne, process referrals and other admin tasks, and support clinicians. NHS/GP GP experience preferred; training provided.

Qualifications

  • General Practice experience is preferred (1 year).
  • Excellent verbal and written communication with patients and team.
  • Ability to manage multiple tasks and timelines with care.

Responsibilities

  • Reception: greet patients and handle enquiries professionally.
  • Book, amend, and cancel appointments using SystmOne.
  • Process prescriptions, referrals, and other admin tasks.
  • Maintain patient records with confidentiality and accuracy.
  • Support clinicians with admin tasks and record summarisation.

Job description

Dewerstone Medical Group (Budshead Medical Practice & Oakside Surgery) are looking for two highly motivated, hard-working and experienced Medical Receptionist's to join our ever growing team! The post is for 24 hours per week Monday-Friday, however flexibility to cover sickness/holiday is essential. Occasional Saturday shifts are available every 5 weeks. 12 month fixed term, to be reviewed with a view to becoming permanent. We will be actively reviewing applications as we receive them, therefore we do reserve the right to close this advertisement early if we receive a high volume of suitable applications.

Experience:
  • General Practice: 1 year (preferred)

The successful applicants will work within the administration team, supporting the clinical staff and each other to deliver a high quality service to patients and other health care professionals. Though based primarily in one section, the post holder may be required to work in other sections of the department where support is needed, including across both sites. They will be required to follow established procedures and work under supervision but use their own initiative and take responsibility for themselves and the quality of their own work.

Key Responsibilities
  • Reception: Greeting patients and handling telephone/email enquiries in a professional & friendly manner
  • Booking, amending, and cancelling appointments using our clinical system (SystmOne)
  • Processing prescriptions, referrals, and other administrative tasks
  • Handling patient records, ensuring confidentiality and accuracy
  • Supporting clinicians with administrative tasks, including medical coding and summarising records
  • Previous experience in a GP surgery or healthcare environment (desirable but not essential)
Desirable Skills & Experience:
  • Proficiency in IT systems and ability to quickly learn practice software - SystmOne, AccuRx
  • Excellent organisational skills and attention to detail
