Working closely with clinical leads, service managers and multidisciplinary teams, the postholder will be responsible for developing and maintaining accurate rotas, coordinating annual leave and sickness cover, managing rota gaps and responding to changing service demands. They will use strong organisational, communication and problem-solving skills to support the efficient delivery of safe, high-quality patient care.

More detail about the role

The postholder will be responsible for the day-to-day medical staffing management of approximately 40 Consultants, Advanced Practice Sonographers and Resident Doctors across the Trust’s Medical Imaging departments, including the acute site and Exeter Nightingale Community Diagnostic Centre (CDC). The role is central to ensuring appropriate staffing levels, maintaining safe and effective service delivery, and supporting the continued development of a growing imaging service.

The successful candidate will oversee all aspects of rota development, coordination and ongoing management, ensuring rotas are accurate, up to date and responsive to operational requirements. This will include proactively identifying and addressing rota gaps, arranging appropriate cover, coordinating planned and unplanned absences, and negotiating staffing arrangements where individuals have external contractual commitments. Responsibilities will include the accurate recording and monitoring of sickness absence, annual leave, study leave and professional leave, as well as ensuring return-to-work interviews are completed in accordance with Trust policies and procedures.

The role will also provide high-quality administrative and personal assistance to the Medical Imaging management team, including providing appropriate support during periods of absence.
