Job summary

Astute People is recruiting a Mechanical Technician for a new EfW Power Station in Slough, Berkshire. You will report to the Mechanical Engineer and maintain mechanical assets such as boilers, pumps, gearboxes and valves to keep plant running safely.

The role offers a basic salary of £46,000–£48,000, plus a £2,500 call-out allowance, bonus, overtime and private medical, pension and benefits. You will work in a heavy engineering environment and contribute to outage planning and spares

Qualifications

• NVQ Level 3 in mechanical engineering or equivalent.
• IOSH or similar health and safety qualification preferred.

Responsibilities

• Fault finding and maintaining mechanical assets including steam boilers, pumps, gearboxes, valves, hydraulics, pneumatics, compressed air systems.
• Maintain compliance with pressure regulations and lifting gear inspection requirements.
• Assist in plant developments and projects.
• Supervise and set to work on-site contractors.
• Maintain accurate maintenance records in CMMS.
• Assist outage planning, scheduling and coordination.
• Ensure availability of plant spares.

Astute's Power Team is partnered with a global company, who specialise with the Energy from Waste industry, to recruit for a Mechanical Technician to join their new EfW Power Station in Slough, Berkshire.

The vital Mechanical Technician role comes with a basic salary of £46,000 - £48,000 + £2,500 call out allowance + Bonus + Overtime + Private Medical + Pension + Benefits.

Responsibilities and duties

Reporting to the Mechanical Engineer, you will be responsible for:

• Fault finding and maintaining mechanical assets including steam boilers, pumps, gearboxes, valves, hydraulics, pneumatics, compressed air systems, etc.
• Working in line with maintenance techniques and best practices
• To ensure compliance with the pressure regulations and lifting gear inspection requirements
• Assisting in plant developments and projects
• Supervising and setting to work on site contractors
• Maintaining accurate maintenance records on the site Computerised Maintenance Management System (CMMS)
• Assist in outage planning, scheduling and coordination
• To ensure the availability of plant spares

Professional qualifications

We are looking for someone with the following:

• Ideally have an NVQ Level 3 qualification in a relevant engineering discipline such as Mechanical Engineering
• A health and safety qualification such as an IOSH will be highly advantageous

Personal skills, prior experience and knowledge

The Mechanical Technician role would suit someone who has:

• Hands on maintenance experience with mechanical systems including, boilers, pumps, compressors, gearboxes, cranes etc
• Practical knowledge of process plant and equipment gained in a heavy engineering environment such as power generation, petrochemical, steel works, CHP plant, paper mill etc.
• Royal/Merchant Navy Marine Engineers will also be considered for this opportunity
