Job summary

Astute People, in Tilbury, is recruiting a Mechanical Engineer for a new-build Energy from Waste plant. The role leads a mechanical maintenance team to ensure high plant availability during construction and operation, with close EPC collaboration.

You will plan outages, manage CMMS integration, and work under health, safety and environmental policies. A competitive package includes a £65k salary, location allowance, bonus, overtime and pension benefits.

Qualifications

• Ideally an HNC or similar in Mechanical Engineering.
• IOSH/NEBOSH advantageous.

Responsibilities

• Lead and manage a team of mechanical technicians to maximise plant availability.
• Plan and optimise mechanical maintenance activities safely and efficiently.
• Supervise contractors on site.
• Collaborate with operations to address plant performance shortfalls.
• Assist in establishing the CMMS and staff training.
• Ensure activities comply with HSE policies.
• Plan outages and support build/commissioning phase.
• Deputise for the Engineering Manager when required.

Astute's Power Team is partnered with a market-leading Energy company, to recruit for a Mechanical Engineer to join their new-build Energy from Waste Power Station, currently in construction, in Tilbury, Essex.

Once fully operational, the EfW will process 350,000 tonnes of waste per annum to generate c.40MW of electricity to export to the national grid which is enough to power c.90,000 homes.

The vital Mechanical Engineer role comes with a salary of up to c.£65,000 + £4,694 location allowance + Bonus + Overtime + Pension + benefits

Responsibilities and duties of the Mechanical Engineer role

• Leading and managing a team of mechanical technicians to ensure the plant is maintained to the highest standard to ensure maximum plant availability.
• Scheduling, planning and optimising all mechanical maintenance activities in a safe and efficient manner.
• Supervising and directing contractors on site
• Working closely with the operations department to assess and review plant performance shortfalls and how these can be rectified.
• Assisting in the setting up and development of the sites Computerised Maintenance Management System (CMMS)
• Ensuring that all activities are carried out in a safe manner and in line with company Health, Safety and Environmental policies
• Working closely with the EPC team during the build and commissioning phase to understand the plant and place new staff on key training
• Recruitment of the Mechanical Technicians to join the team as it is a new build plant
• Planning and execution of outages once the plant is fully operational
• Deputise for the Engineering Manager as and when required

Professional qualifications

• Ideally a HNC, or similar, in a relevant engineering subject such as Mechanical Engineering
• IOSH/NEBOSH will be advantageous

Personal Skills, Prior Experience and Knowledge

• Proven supervisory / management experience in heavy process engineering environments such as Power Generation (Energy from Waste, Biomass, Coal, CCGT, CHP, etc), Paper Mills, COMAH sites, Steelworks, Refineries, etc
• Good knowledge of legislation such as PSSR, PUWER, LOLER, CDM, etc
• Outage planning and execution experience
• Prior experience of P&L responsibility
• Good knowledge of CMMS
