Job summary

Astute People’s Power Team is partnering with a market-leading Energy company to recruit a Mechanical Technician for a gas-fired power station in Peterborough. The role offers a competitive basic salary plus overtime and bonus and private medical insurance.

You will diagnose faults, maintain gas turbines, pumps and valves, supervise on-site contractors, and keep accurate CMMS records, within health and safety guidelines. A time-served apprenticeship and NVQ Level 3 are preferred.

Qualifications

• Time served apprenticeship with NVQ Level 3 in Mechanical Engineering.
• IOSH or equivalent health and safety qualification is advantageous.
• Experience in heavy process engineering maintenance.
• Experience with CMMS.

Responsibilities

• Diagnose faults and perform repairs on mechanical assets including gas turbines, pumps, valves.
• Carry out planned and unplanned maintenance to maximise plant availability.
• Maintain maintenance records using CMMS.
• Supervise on-site contractors when required.
• Work within health, safety and environmental procedures.

Responsibilities and duties of the Mechanical Technician role

As Mechanical Technician, You Will Be Responsible For

• Carrying out fault diagnosis, repairs, planned and unplanned maintenance activities on all mechanical assets to maximise plant availability including gas turbine, valves, pumps, gearboxes, hydraulics, pneumatics, etc
• Assisting during major maintenance periods, shutdowns, outages etc. when required to ensure maximum plant availability and efficiency
• Maintaining accurate maintenance records using the site’s Computerised Maintenance Management System (CMMS)
• Supervising and directing on site contractors when required
• Working within the company health, safety and environmental processes and procedures at all times.

Professional Qualifications

We are looking for someone with the following:

• A time served apprenticeship with an NVQ Level 3 qualification in a relevant discipline such as Mechanical Engineering
• A formal Health and Safety qualification such as IOSH will be advantageous but not a necessity

Personal Skills, Prior Experience And Knowledge

The Mechanical Technician role would suit someone who has:

• Prior mechanical maintenance experience in a heavy process engineering environments such as Power Generation (Energy from Waste, Biomass, Coal, CCGT, CHP, etc), Paper Mills, COMAH sites, Steelworks, Refineries, etc
• Excellent technical knowledge of mechanical equipment (gas turbines, pumps, valves, etc)
• Some experience with planning and scoping works with the ability to complete small projects
• Experience with CMMS (Computerised Maintenance Management Systems)
